What is a Narrative?

A narrative text is a text focusing specific participants which tells an interesting story. Its social function is to tell stories or past events and entertain or amuse the readers.

Generic structure and Linguistics features of Narrative text

Generic Structure:
1. Orientation: Introducing the participants and informing the time and the place
2. Complication: Describing the rising crises which the participants have to do with
3. Evaluation : reaction of the participants to the problem
4. Resolution: Showing the way of participant to solve the crises, better or worse

Linguistics Features:
  1. A narrative focuses on specific participants.
  2. There are many action verbs, verbal and mental processes
  3. Direct and indirect speeches are often used
  4. It usually uses Past Tense
  5. There are sometimes some dialog and the tense can change
  6. Descriptive language is used to create listener’s or reader’s imagination
  7. Temporal conjunctions are also used.
